Save the Date: Christmas Walk 28th 🎅

Save the Date: Christmas Walk 28th 🎅

Just 9 days to our Christmas Walk and we are super excited to extend a warm invitation to everyone who has been part of the Gap journey over the last 12+ years, whether you walked once… or more regularly with us, whatever your engagement has been, we’d like you to join us on Dec 28th as we celebrate our long overdue 10th anniversary, (Covid got in the way)…we are walking (and partying) in style and we would love it, if you were a part of that!

Meet at the Gap O’ the North Pub for registration on the morning from 11:30 am, walk starts sharply at 12 noon. This year it is “an adult only affair” so walking a little further but keeping to forest paths and trails and suitable for new walkers. We will be stopping for lunch, so bring a packed lunch and a drink. The walk will last around 3 hours, arriving back at the Gap for 3:00/3:15 pm. Mulled wine and festive treats will be served in the Beer Garden on return with music starting up around 3:30 pm and playing late into the wee hours.

So whether a current or past member, or hoping to join soon, bring a friend, (and a backpack) and stay for the craic! We look forward to catching up with old friends and making some new ones.

Please RSVP your attendance by Dec 26th either via our Facebook/Messenger Page or email:  gaponorth@gmail.com
Wishing all our many friends at home and away, a very happy and peaceful Christmas, hopefully we will see many of you on the 28th!

Away Trip October 2022

Away Trip October 2022

This year our “Away Trip”, is the 14th-16th October, when we will travel to the Comeragh Mountain range in Waterford. We have stunning… but challenging walks planned for both groups… so in the lead up to October we will be planning our Walk’s Schedule to include more challenging walks, in particular the descents!
The “Away Trip” is open to all fully paid up members, booking will open shortly and will be filled as always on a “first come, first served basis”.
We recommend that all members planning to travel to Waterford make the effort to attend all walks in the lead up to October starting with our next walk Slieve Gullion on the 14th August, meeting at Gap O’ the North Pub, Jonesborough @ 10 am.

Climb with Charlie

Just 3 weeks to go before our “Climb with Charlie” event, on Saturday, 2nd April. We have had a great response and currently have 40 walkers signed up for the event, but we have capacity to take more… so if you have been thinking about it…just do it!!! We promise the Gap’s legendary craic, after all who else is mad enough to climb Slieve Gullion for sunrise!!!

Meeting at the Three Steps Pub, Dromintee, at 5:30 am for set off at 6am. It will be a 3.5/4 hours walk mostly on forest trails, but we reccomend walking boots, to layer up and take a snack/warm drink for the top. Don’t forget a head torch. On return there will be a well deserved cup of tea/coffee and a bite to eat in The Steps.

If you needed encouragement just watch Charlie’s video at the link below and check out the official Walk with Charlie website where you will see our walk registered, and where any non walkers who would like to make a donation can do so. Anyone wishing to climb with us, please make contact through our email address, info@gaponorth.co.uk

Cooley’s Walk Sunday 27th 2022

  1. The forecast for Sunday looks promising but very windy so bring plenty of warm layers.  New walkers welcome, meeting at the Gap O’ the North Pub for registration and safety briefing at 10 am. Remember all walkers must be wearing deep tread walking boots, have a waterproof jacket, gloves and hat, as well as a packed lunch. Jeans are not recommended as they get wet and stay wet, leading to uncomfortable grumpy walkers and we don’t want any of those!!

Expect to be out for 4 hours.

Please note our “Walk with Charlie” on Saturday 2nd April requires pre- registration essential as there is a limited number of places. Registration can be paid in advance at any of our scheduled walks or on the day to those pre registered at info@gaponorth.co.uk Registration fee £20.00 / €25.00 Whilst we welcome older children please be mindful, this is a moderate level hill walk of approximately 3.5 – 4 hrs. Registration fee of £5.00 / €5.00
