Over the weekend we have a group of leaders travelling to Tollymore Mountain Centre for Rec 2 training, we wish them well and hope they enjoy their experience. Any one interested in developing their own skills in either first aid or navigation speak to any committee member about the possibilities of future training, we are always on the look out for potential leaders!!!

Over 120 walkers, adults and children joined us yesterday for our ramble around Slieve Gullion , well done everyone we walked roughly, 8.5 km from the Courtyard, climbed close to the top car park, then walked down onto the Forest Road, before cutting back in via the gun club to the courtyard again. Thanks to Seamus for entertaining us with stories from the area and for pointing out all the local landmarks. Check out our facebook page to see all the photos!!

Our next walk is in a fortnight’s time, Sunday 6th of October, Flurry to Forkhill.

Slieve Gullion Ramble

Our walk this Sunday, 22nd of September, is part of the Get Outdoors Extravaganza taking place at Slieve Gullion Courtyard. Members to meet at the courtyard at 11am for a prompt departure at 11.30. We expect to be joined by a large number of guests so we will be keeping to the paths and roadways. The walk will last approximately 2.5 hours and will include a number of stops for some local/historical information courtesy of our Chairman Seamus.  There will be no lunch stop. There are shuttle buses in operation from the following car parks: Gifted Meigh, Murphy’s Bar, Meigh ( their 2nd car park) and also from Dromintee football club from 11.10am onwards. Check out our stand in the Hawthorne suite at the Courtyard and if possible stay awhile to meet with and talk to potential new members!!

(Members/Leaders with Club rucksack covers please bring them along)

 

Get Outdoors Weekend

For all members available to help out with our up coming walk on Slieve Gullion, (Sunday 22nd of September @ 11.30am), as part of the “Get Outdoors” extravaganza taking place at the Courtyard, there will be a meeting on Wednesday 18th of September at 7.30pm in the Gap, Jonesboro’.  We need leaders, first aiders, frontmen/ backmen, marshals, members to man our stand and to meet and greet walkers etc. etc…

Whatever help you can give will be gratefully accepted!!!

 

Sunday’s Walk 8th September

This Sunday 8th of September we will have 2 groups out in the Cooley’s, walking in the Annaloughan/ Moneycrockroe area. Anyone wishing to walk with us must meet at the Gap pub Jonesboro’ at 10am for a safety briefing and registration. We will organise car-pooling and drive to our starting point.

All walkers must be properly kitted out with deep tread hiking boots and a water proof jacket, in addition gaiters and walking poles are advisable. Bring a packed lunch /drink and be prepared to walk for 4+ hours on rough and hilly terrain. All new walkers or anyone who has not walked with us in a while must walk with our C group.
