Remember we have no walk this Sunday, as it is Easter Sunday. Instead for members we have a walk on Easter Monday, details of which members should have received by email, if you haven’t drop an email or message and I’ll forward the details to you.

On Saturday 29th of April, we are away for our Dublin Skyline walk, so we won’t have a Sunday walk that weekend either.

Our next Sunday walk therefore is Sunday 14th of May and it is a local walk, our “Clermont Wall Walk” more details will be posted closer to the time.

We’ve two groups out walking this Sunday, 2nd of April both in the Rostrevor area.  We will meet at the Gap O’ the North Pub, Jonesboro at 10 am. Following a walks’ briefing and the distribution of our Safety and Group equipment we will car pool and drive to Kilbroney where both Groups will start their walks.

New walkers are very welcome to join our C Group, our lowest level Group for their first walk with us. Only experienced walkers who have walked with us before can join our B Group. Both Groups will be out 4/4.5 hours and will have steep climbs. Expect to be on open hillside with rough uneven ground in places. All walkers must have walking boots, a waterproof jacket and a packed lunch.

Membership is now due, £20 or 25 euros.

It’s been awhile since we have been at the Blue Cross, but our next walk on Sunday 19th of March will take us in that direction. We will have two groups out in the same general area, with variations in distance and pace. If you’d like to join us meet as the Gap O’ the North Pub, Jonesborough, at 10 am. All walkers must have walking boots, a waterproof jacket, bring a packed lunch. Expect to be out for around 4 hours on open countryside.

Our AGM will follow the walk and is open to all fully paid up members. Membership is up 31st of March, and forms for renewal or for new members will be available on the first walk in April, Sunday 2nd April. Membership remains at £20 or €25.

Anyone wishing to join us on our Dublin Skyline walk on Saturday 29th of April, the cost is £20 which includes the bus and food in Taylor’s Three Rock Inn, at the end of the walk. This must be paid Sunday if you have not already done so. The walk is around 12 km mostly on good tracks and takes in splendid views of both Dublin City and the Wicklow Mountains. A few places are still available, but will be filled on a “first come, first served basis”.

Our walk this Sunday, 5th of March will take us past the site of the worst WW2 air crash, in terms of loss of life, on Irish soil. 15 of the 19 Allied Air-force crew on board perished. It occurred on the 16th of March 1942, when an American-built B24 bomber on its way from North Africa, to Dorset, England, crashed on Annaloughan in the Cooley Mountains, due to bad weather conditions. 
Not all of the bodies were repatriated for burial, the Australians and the New Zealander on board were buried in Belfast City Cemetery and two of the Canadians were interred in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newry. 

If you are interested in joining us, on this poignant walk and visit the site almost 75 years to the day after the event, then meet us at the Gap O’ the North Pub, Jonesborough at 10 am on Sunday. We will have 2 Groups out, with variations in pace and distance. All walkers must have walking boots and a waterproof jacket, bring a packed lunch. Expect to be out on open hillside for 4/4+ hours and in possibly cold and wet conditions, so wrap up well, layers are best, no jeans.

Members please note I will be taking £20 deposit, for the upcoming Dublin Skyline walk, scheduled for Saturday 29th of April, bus will be filled on a first come first served basis.
