Slieve Binnian

Slieve Binnian

The world famous author C.S Lewis, who wrote, `The Chronicles of Narnia’ was inspired by the Mourne landscape. He wrote “it made me feel that at any moment a giant might raise its head over the next ridge”.  On our next hill walk, this Sunday 27th May, we might spot a giant among the  inspiring rocks on the summit of Slieve Binnian the 3rd highest peak in Northern Ireland.

Our B and C groups, respectively led by Aidan and Peter, will walk at different paces and return along different routes. After a short bus trip, both groups will climb to the unique rock shapes and view spectacular scenery including Silent Valley and Crom reservoirs, most of the central Mournes and much of the north-eastern coast and the Isle of Man.

The walks will be about 4-5 hours duration starting and returning to Carrick Little car park on the head road near Annalong. If we get away from the ‘Gap’ sharply by 10.30am we should be back there between 5-6 pm. Dry sunny weather is forecast so wear sun cream and a hat and bring sufficient water and food for the whole day as well as the standard walking gear. A walk not to be missed!!!

Feede/Faughil Mountains

Feede/Faughil Mountains

Our walk this Sunday, 13th of May is a local one, taking in Feede and Faughil Mountains. We will be leaving the Gap O’ the North, Jonesborough on foot. Meet at 10 am, for a safety briefing. All walkers will need walking boots, a waterproof jacket and a packed lunch. This walk will be on rough ground and a degree of scrambling will be required. Conditions are expected to be very wet underfoot, so gaiters are recommended. It will be a one group walk lasting around 3/3.5 hours.

The next walk is Binnian on Sunday, 27th of May, we are organising a bus at a cost of £7/head, this will be filled on a first come first served, and only payment in full secures a place. There will be 2 Groups walking on the day.

Saturday 23rd of June is the date of our Away Trip to the Glens of Antrim, a super walk is planned, followed by music and a BBQ, cost including bus transport, £30/head, now taking bookings!!!

October weekend Away trip is to the Galtees, taking depositis of 50 Euro/head.

Slieve Martin

This Sunday, 15th of April our Leaders, Adrian and Aidan are leading  walks on Slieve Martin, Kilbroney. They have scouted routes giving both a  B and C Group walk. Both Groups will be out for around 4 hrs, C Group will walk around 8/9 km the B Group 12.5 km with significant difference in pace between the two Groups.

Depending on the routes Leaders decide upon on the day, if the weather holds up no matter what the route the scenes will be stunning!

As always walking boots, a waterproof jacket and a packed lunch are essential. Expect it to be several degrees colder on top, so layers are advisable and carry an extra layer of clothing in your rucksack.
